In Loving Memory of our co-founder Caito Mwandu

Co-founder, friend, and the heart of The Baobab Home

On Sunday, 18 October 2026, our co-founder Caito Mwandu passed away.

For more than twenty years, Caito and Terri built The Baobab Home from a shared dream in 2004 into a loving home, Steven Tito Academy, a regenerative farm, and programs that have touched hundreds of children and families in Bagamoyo.

Caito’s smile was big, bright, and impossible to forget. He made every child, visitor, and volunteer feel like family. Like the baobab that inspired our name, he sheltered everyone who came near him.

The work continues in his honor. The school, the farm, and the home carry on. His values of curiosity, gratitude, kindness, unity, and well-being live on in every classroom, every row of crops, and every child’s day

“Baobab was never about one person. It was about all of us, holding each other up.”  - Caito Mwandu
