The Birth of an Eco-conscious Shamba

In 2008 The Baobab Home was given an unsolicited donation from two donors in California that enabled us to purchase 12 acres of beautiful land about 5 km outside of Bagamoyo town. Today, it is the center of The Baobab Home where we grow organic fruits and vegetables, and raise fish, poultry, and cows. It has also become a living laboratory for our primary school, the Steven Tito Academy. The kids are growing up in a safe and rich environment, close to nature, where they can learn about regenerative farming, and become more environmentally aware. The farm also allows us to be more self-sufficient, which provides a better life for the Baobab community.

Why do we focus on regenerative agriculture?

Ecosystem restoration and regenerative farming are needed everywhere on Earth. The more people who understand this, the more chance we have at success. Regenerative agriculture is an approach to farming that aims to restore and enhance the health of the soil, biodiversity, and ecosystems, while producing food sustainably. It focuses on working with nature rather than against it, and creates a regenerative cycle where the land improves over time instead of degrading from chemical fertilizer. Soil is our most precious gift. If we do not teach our children to protect it, the consequences will be devastating. As such, we have implemented a series of regenerative agriculture initiatives.

Regenerative farming fosters long-term land productivity as well as biodiversity, encouraging the growth of local plant and animal species.
