Our added value

Green focus

While STA teaches essential values such as gratitude or perseverance, it dedicates a strong focus on teaching environmental awareness.

Our shamba (farm in Swahili) is the perfect setting for our school. It makes it easy to raise environmental awareness and convey the importance of taking care of the soil, plants, and trees that surround the school. The Baobab farm serves as a learning laboratory, offering STA students hands-on learning opportunities in sustainable agriculture. Through multiple initiatives such as our Agriculture Club, outdoor farming lessons, nutritious food services, tours across the shamba’s sustainable infrastructures, students get to acquire essential knowledge about regenerative farming, renewable energy, green food and plant medicine.

Take a look at our shamba’s sustainable practices here.

Why is it essential?

We believe it is fundamental to teach the kids environmental awareness as by learning how their actions affect the world, students develop the responsibility needed to care for our planet. This hands-on learning also offers them a general view, from farm to fork, to what happens to their food, how to cultivate it without unnecessary chemicals.

Positive reinforcement

STA uses positive reinforcement and restorative justice to promote a safe learning environment. Unlike many other Tanzanian schools,  STA teachers do not hit or harm the students in any way. Our teachers and staff use positive reinforcement and encourage students to take ownership of their own behavior, while still making sure the school rules are clear and fair for all students. Through this policy, students learn to make positive choices and to take responsibility for their actions.

At Steven Tito Academy, our values are central to our teaching practices:

Well being, unity, kindness, curiosity, gratitude, honesty, perseverance, responsibility

Community and Family involvement

We believe that building a strong and healthy community requires the active participation of everyone involved in achieving our shared goals. At STA, we value parents as essential members of our school community, recognizing them as the first and most important educators of their children.  By keeping parents actively engaged in their child's learning journey, we ensure that our values are instilled in both our students and their parents.

As such, teachers hold regular meetings with all parents, both one-on-one and as a group. Families of all full and partially sponsored students are also asked to provide service or trade each month to the school to foster responsibility for their child's education and to involve them in the day-to-day life of the school. Eventually, STA parents are valued members of the school community and they contribute in many different ways from gardening to coaching soccer or helping out in the school kitchen. These days we also offer parents training in soil health and organic gardening. We provide meals to parents and younger siblings and see a lot of mutual benefit.
