This is Octa. Octa's mother, Mama Grace, is one of the dedicated, tireless superwomen who care for the children living at Baobab. Although Octa's not "technically" one of the Baobab kids, he lives on the shamba and has always been part of the family.
Octa was a sickly child, and was diagnosed with asthma and breathing problems at a very young age. He's tried countless treatments and medications over the years, but not much has helped. Even a simple cold can take him out of school for days at a time, as any sort of illness only exacerbates his breathing issues and makes it extremely difficult for him to get enough air to his lungs.

Octa's doctor has recommended that he have an adenoidectomy, a surgical procedure to remove his adenoids, which will allow him to breathe better and improve his overall quality of life. The cost of the surgery and hospital stay will be largely covered by Mama Grace's private health insurance, but there are still many expenses that she'll have to pay for herself, such as transport, food, and medications. Grace works so incredibly hard to support everyone at Baobab, and now it's time for us to help her. Octa's surgery is on October 25th, so we're hosting a three-day Flash Fundraiser to raise as much as we can for Octa and Grace. Every dollar goes a long way, and will help ease the financial burden put on this wonderful family. |
