About Us

Steven Tito Academy (STA) started with a handful of children in 2012 as a program of The Baobab Home in Bagamoyo, Tanzania. Nine years later in 2021, the school is at full capacity of classes from Prep (the first Preparatory year) to Grade Seven with 180 students.

As an English medium primary school, STA’s mission is to serve the children in the local community, offering high-quality education that is taught in English and focused on individualized learning, in a safe learning environment. STA teachers do not use corporal punishment on the students in any way as they believe in teaching students to take ownership and responsibility for their actions.

The STA school motto is “Learning for Life”. Students learn skills to help them be successful in life, not just examinations. We believe learning does not stop at the end of school - it is a lifelong task. STA aims to teach students the skills and strategies needed to be able to continue to put into practice the knowledge and understanding, learned from the classroom, into real-world situations throughout their lives.

STA’s teachers are the best in Tanzania as we hire from all over the country to provide our students with a well-rounded education that includes Science, Mathematics, Literacy (English and Kiswahili), the Arts, Vocational Skills and Physical Education and is tailored to each unique student always with our school values in mind.

As a charity school, STA relies solely on donors to keep the school operating. This also enables us to seek out talented and gifted students from underprivileged families who would otherwise miss out on the opportunity of an English medium primary school education. If you are interested in sponsoring a student, you can sign up here: www.steventitoacademy.org/fullsponsorship or please contact us for more info at [email protected].

STA values the parents as the first educators of their children. All parents whose children are sponsored invest their time in a variety of committees including gardening, cleaning, and cooking committees. This is to ensure that they are as immersed in their child's education. Teachers also hold regular meetings with all parents, both one-on-one and as a group.

STA also accepts students whose parents can pay part or all of the school fees. Our fee-paying parents know that their children will gain an educational edge through the English language instruction model.

STA was established in 2012 as a program of The Baobab Home, a registered 501(c)(3) organization in the USA and a registered foreign NGO in Bagamoyo, Tanzania. We are governed by our Board of Directors.

"Education whether formal or informal has a purpose. That purpose is to transmit from one generation to the next the accumulated wisdom and knowledge of the society and to prepare the young people for their future membership of the society and their active participation in its maintenance or development."

- Julius Kambarage Nyerere, first President of Tanzania
